I would like to give you my opinion, feed back and send you some photos of the installation of the autoply in my 2024 Ford Transit Van.
I am would like to say off the hop that it is by far easier to install than most of the other leading products out there. Previously in a Ram Promaster I built into a camper van I used 3M thinsulate. With thinsulate I had to use contact spray as the adhesive to create a bond between the van wall and the material. This was not only messy but annoying and very time consuming. I would have to measure, cut, check, spray and wait for tackiness of the adhesive. Then pray that I was able to apply the thinsulate on the first shot, there is no second chance. (unless you wanted to rip it off and try again with a whole new peice.)
I love that the autoply is precut to size and that the peel and stick adhesive makes for quick work. No mess, no over-spray, no templates. The adhesive is very sticky but gives you an opportunity to reposition the insulation just incase it was not lined up correctly.
The backing for the adhesive is easy to remove and cut into sections on each peice. This makes it easier to apply the insulation when working in awkward parts of the vans frame.
The autoply insulation came in two boxes. One box had the ceiling and back door peices. The second box had the wall peices. I used the diagram from the website to sort out each peice and where it is to be placed. It wouldl have been nice to have a printed diagram. Also the peices are not labeled individually except with a letter "R" or an "L" to indicate left or right side of the van. The letters were written in faded sharpy. It would be nice if the used some stickers (L/R).
For some of the areas of the van, I cut down the autoply with sharp heavy duty scissors to fit into some sections of the side walls. I prefer my insulation to be against the outside wall rather than the inside wall of the van (see photos). The autoply is cut by the manufacturer to fit the inside wall.
The ceiling was straight forward to apply. Autoply does not provide a peice to fit behind the headliner. I had extra insulation leftover to do the job though as my Ford Transit is a long wheel base nt an EXTENDED wheel base ( 2-3 feet difference).
All in all, I love the product. It is easy to use and took me no time at all to instalI. I also noticed immediately less road noise and heat transfer through the vans walls and ceiling. I am more than happy to speak with anyone who may be on the fence about buying autoply. I would say the cost may be a little high for some as it about $700 for thinsulate. On the flip side, it takes a fraction of the time to install with no mess.
